My Shortbread Story

 

 

Most recently I have embarked on an exciting new venture 'Sarah's Shortbread'. For over a decade I have been making shortbread for family, friends and the obligatory plate for my tennis matches. I have long desired to turn my delicious shortbread into a commercial venture and now the time is right. Classic Shortbread

 

I have spent many years perfecting my Classic Shortbread. What seems to be just a simple biscuit I have perfected to become a sublimely short melt-in-the-mouth indulgent experience.

What started out as baking shortbread for my family for afternoon teas developed into baking for my friends, as on every visit they demanded that I offered up my shortbread.

 

I started taking my shortbread as a plate to tennis matches and the same reaction was given. Upon the occasions I offered up a different plate I was met with moans and groans and promptly asked, 'why no shortbread'?

This got me thinking, my shortbread was so well received why not spread the word and start small batch production and offer my shortbread up commercially.

 

Sarah's Shortbread was born and here we are today. 

 

 

Gluten Free Shortbread

 

Who said that food aimed towards people who are sensitive to gluten should compromise on flavour, texture and indulgence?

 

My gluten free shortbread is as beautiful and delicious as my classic shortbread. No one will guess that it is gluten free and one thing is for sure all the family will love these gluten free shortbread biscuits. Having said this you will probably not want to share and keep them all to yourself.

Flavoured Shortbread

If you have read the opening section you will see it all started with my 'Classic Shortbread'. It seemed crazy not to experiment with different flavoured varieties. This is why I started tentatively with my chocolate chip flavoured shortbread.

 

Following on from this, the range will initially be developed into quite a conservative and traditional flavoured range consisting of flavours such as, Zesty Lemon/orange to Spicy Ginger. More exotic flavours will follow in the future, English Lavender, Asian Spice, Japanese Matcha Tea, Moroccan Rose and many more.

I intend to build the range to suite all tastes and create a brand which albeit niche, will become

established and loved by all who buy them.

Gifts & Occasions

 

Historically in the early days shortbread was an expensive luxury and for ordinary people, shortbread was a special treat reserved just for special occasions such as Weddings, Christmas and the New Year. In Shetland (Scotland) it was traditional to break a decorated shortbread cake over the head of a new bride on the threshold of her new home. The custom of eating shortbread at New Year has its origins in the ancient pagan Yule Cakes which symbolised the sun. In Scotland it is still traditionally offered to “first footers” at New Year.

Carrying on tradition we offer shortbread as a gift to give to a friend, relative or as a corporate gift. We have a selection which are designed to be celebrate special occasions such as Christmas/New Year, Valentines, Easter, Halloween and Bonfire Night.
